Keith and Kristyn Getty have begun a Christmas tradition of performing their Christmas concert called “Sing! An Irish Christmas.” The Getty’s are currently in their fifth year of taking the concert on tour. It features a variety of Christmas carols and hymns, including a healthy dose of the Irish music of their homeland—“a blend of festive joy and solemn reverence.”
The Gettys are known as modern hymnwriters, and Keith says Christmas carols are also hymns.
“Part of it is the rhythm of the Christmas season, and the sentimentality of it means we sing hymns over and over again, so we get to know them deeper, and that's something we should learn from for the rest of the year too. The great carols of the faith tell the story of redemption, but they also emphasize incarnation, Christ's life, His words, His vulnerability and His story.”
If you would like to catch the Getty Christmas tour this year, you’re probably out of luck. Their nearest appearance is in Cedar Falls, Iowa on December 18.
However, you can still hear the original Getty Christmas concert, “Sing! An Irish Christmas Live at Grand Ole Opry” from 2019 on KJOL Wednesday, December 20 at 7:00 pm. It includes Venezuelan flutist Pedro Eustache, and Phil Keaggy playing "Silent Night" on guitar.
