Last year, Maverick City Music became the first Gospel artists in 20 years to perform during the Grammy awards. One year later, they swept the Grammy awards for Gospel and Contemporary Music.
Best Gospel Performance/Song (“Kingdom”)
Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance (“Fear is Not My Future”)
Best Contemporary Christian Music Album (“Breathe”)
Best Gospel Album (“Kingdom Book One” Deluxe)
The fact they won in two different musical categories fits their stated goal: a collective of musicians who write and record music that brings together CCM and Gospel music, two musical styles that “otherwise exist in their own separate worlds.”
“I’m super grateful to God and what He’s able to do when you just decide to give your life to serve other people and to uplift voices that are not normally heard,” said Maverick City Music member Naomi Raine after the award.
You can hear “Fear is Not My Future” during KJOL’s Contemporary Music Hour on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
If Maverick isn’t your musical taste, here are the other nominees, all of whom are played on KJOL.
