Casting Crowns “Start Right Here”
The latest song by Casting Crowns, “Start Right Here,” is yet another of their trademark songs that makes us uncomfortable by admitting that we have fallen short of God’s calling in our lives.
Casting Crowns has many songs that take a hard look at what it really means to be a Christian.
Jesus paid much too high a price
For us to pick and choose who should come
And we are the body of Christ
What do you think about when you look at me?
I know we're not the fairytale you dreamed we'd be.”
It offers hope in asking God to heal them.
Could healing still be spoken and save us
The only way we'll last forever is broken together
Only God can change our minds
Are we happy plastic people
Under shiny plastic steeples
With walls around our weakness
And smiles that hide our pain
But it invites us to lay aside our charade and admit we are broken:
But the invitation’s open
To every heart that's been broken
Maybe then we close the curtain
On our stained glass masquerade
We want our coffee in the lobby
We watch our worship on a screen
We got a Rockstar preacher
Who won't wake us from our dreams
We want our blessings in our pocket
We keep our missions overseas
But for the hurting in our cities
Would we even cross the street?
It compares us to “the brother of the prodigal, who turned his nose and puffed his chest, but his soul was just as dead.”
It concludes with encouragement, from II Chronicles 7:14:
We're the people who are called by His name
If we'll surrender all our pride and turn from our ways
He will hear from Heaven and forgive our sin
He will heal our land but it starts right here
