Praise Him Ministries is presenting Colton Dixon in concert in Montrose on Tuesday, May 9.
You’ve probably heard Colton Dixon’s music on KJOL, including “Build A Boat” and his current release “My Light.”
He grew up in a Christian family near Nashville, singing in the school choir, and forming a Christian band with his sister.
Dixon’s career took off after American Idol in 2012, when 20 year old Colton finished in the Top 7. (Here he is performing the worship song “Everything.”) Afterwards he signed a recording contract, sporting his trademark mohawk hair style. (He still has an impressive mop of blonde hair today.)
In 2016 he married his wife Annie, and they welcomed twin daughters in 2020, although one of the babies was born without a pulse.
"We never expected our little Ava Dior would arrive in the world without a pulse. In that moment, we had a choice: faith or fear," said Dixon. "We watched and prayed as the doctors and nurses resuscitated our daughter back to life."
His daughters were born just months after his song “Miracles” was released.
“I will say this as a songwriter. It’s comical the amount of times I’ve written a song and then I’ve needed the meaning of that song or the lyric of that song in my own life after the fact.”
Dixon says his song “Build a Boat” describes the kind of bold faith God has required of him in his own life.
“When Noah was telling people, ‘Hey, God spoke to me and said that a flood was coming,’ there’s no way people in their right mind took him seriously,” observed Dixon. “How often do we let other people dictate our future? We believe what they say more than what God says.”
I will build a boat in the sand where they say it never rains
I will stand up in faith, I'll do anything it takes
With Your wind in my sails, Your love never fails or fades
I'll build a boat in the desert place
Colton Dixon will be at Grace Community Church in Montrose on Tuesday, May 9, along with Jordan St. Cyr and special guest Alexander Pappas. Tickets are $18, available online at Praise Him Ministries.
