I don’t know about you, but during the 2 year COVID pandemic, I learned to be brave...my chest hair grew 2 inches those years! And in 2022, I learned to fear. I think something is backwards here. But life comes at us all in different ways; and something that got me through some big difficulties last year, has me hopeful for 2023. That something is God’s Word, specifically Psalm 34.
“The righteous person may have many troubles,
but the Lord delivers him from them all” vs. 19
With God, there is always hope. It’s most certainly not found in Washington DC, in governors, in Hollywood, in the doctor, at the gym, in money, or in our stomachs. But God is our hope…and He is a God of new beginnings. While there is no end to people who want to tell us how to live, the best advice worth following is always found in the Words of our Creator.
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.” vs. 4-7
The whole chapter of Psalm 34 is worth the read, and even memorizing. My kids are writing it out right now as part of their homeschooling; and I am thinking about having a canvas sign made up with Psalm 34 to hang in my house somewhere…a reminder that God is near. Has there been a Bible passage that has meant a lot to you recently? Let me know, at dave@kjol.org. Chances are, others (myself included) would love to hear what it is.
Happy New Year!
