KJOL has seen a host of new artists appear on the music scene recently. Here’s a look at some of the people behind the voices.
Koryn Hawthorne
Koryn (pronounced “ka-RIN”) is a 23-year-old native of Louisiana. At the age of 17, she was a
finalist
on NBC’s The Voice talent contest in 2015. She is a two-time Dove Award winner in the gospel music category.
Her current song “
How Great” is a favorite around KJOL. She sings the duet with worship leader Matt Maher, who complements Koryn’s powerful gospel vocals.
All I've been through, All I've seen You do For this, I will praise You
My eyes were opened, My chains were broken
And for this, I will praise You
How great Thou art, How great Thou art, Oh Lord, my God
Sarah Kroger
Sarah is a 34-year-old
Nashville-based worship leader
who records with Integrity Music. Fun fact: she is from Melbourne (Florida). But when she was young, she lived in Australia!
O Savior, come and make a home with stubborn hearts of sin and stone
You became our transgressions, lifted high upon the cross
For a world that is broken, Your heart was torn open
So that we could be an unbroken family
Lydia Laird
Seven seems to
Lydia’s number: she is the seventh of ten children. She moved to Nashville seven years ago (from her home in Texas). And she released a seven-song EP last year (August 7) on the Provident Label (home of Casting Crowns, I Am They, Matt Maher, Matthew West, and Zach Williams).
Her family lived as missionaries in Romania when she was five years old. Her debut song was “
Hallelujah Even Here”.
In the middle of the in between
In the middle of the questioning
Over every worry, every fear
Hallelujah even here.
Patrick Mayberry
When Patrick
was in high school in Chicago, his YoungLife leader invited him to the Passion 2006 worship conference. That’s when he understood the power of worship music. When he got home, he bought his first Christian CD, an album by Chris Tomlin (of course!).
Today he lives in Nashville but still serves as executive producer of worship for his home church, Soul City Church in Chicago. His new song “
Breakthrough Miracle Power” was used by Kristian Stanfill at the Passion 2021 worship conference.
I need a breakthrough miracle moment right now
Only in You and with You, my victory is found
Bring that breakthrough miracle power, let it rain down
